Understanding The Basics Of Midwifery

Midwifery was developed out of the social, physical and material support women have provided each other during their times of need. A midwife will be able to provide proper care and treatment to a pregnant mother, while providing emotional support as well. There are differences with the model of a midwife compared to a medical management, but the aim is the same. Read on to know what the main philosophy of midwifery is all about.

First and foremost, midwives focuses on the normalcy of pregnancy and keeping it as healthy as possible. They see the birth as something that is normal which will give a valuable experience to a lot of people. It is usually treated by a midwife as normal unless there is evidence of a problem. The possibility of certain problems is usually not allowed to supersede the values and meaning derived from the birthing experience and raising of the child. A midwife is someone who knows a lot in terms of protecting, improving and promoting normal labor, delivery and proper breast-feeding.  That is one of the benefits women love who I help in my San Diego midwife service.

Second, midwifery establishes the pregnant woman as an active partner in her own care and recognizes her as the primary actor and decision-maker. An important role of a midwife is to provide appropriate information and support for the pregnant woman to be able to decide properly. A midwife is able to help address any problems that may arise in order to give good information so that the pregnant woman can make the proper choice.  This makes a home birth go much more smoothly as evidenced in our Water Birth San Diego practice.

Finally, the midwife ensures that the woman and her life is the focus of prenatal care. The primary focus of a midwife is focused on the pregnant woman and treats her uniquely as an individual. The midwife is interested in the woman’s expectations and beliefs, and wants to make the experience as fulfilling as possible. A midwife makes sure that the woman will be adaptable to change which will lead to proper prenatal care, pregnancy, labor and family development.  We make sure the environment is just the way the woman wants it in our homebirth midwife San Diego service.

So those are the main focus and philosophy of midwifery. Ensuring that the woman is on top of the situation is what separates a midwife from any other form of care.

Is home birthing a good method to deliver a baby

Hiring a midife is one way of delivering a baby. They may not be a nurse or a doctor but a midwife is also a licensed professional. What they generally do is assist pregnant women give birth naturally. And this natural way is also done mostly at the houses of the mothers.Since the deliveries are mostly done at homes and there are no doctors or nurses to assist the delivery a lot of people doubt the safety of this method.  This article will look and see if it is safe to use a midwife.

First of all as a San Diego midwife this allows me to answer these questions with knowledge. The main concern of people about this method is its safety. The thing is midwives are also trained to handle enmergencies in delivery of babies. And most, if not all, things that might arise during a pregnancy can be handled by a midwife.

The fact that this method is usually done at homes is another concern for most people. The concern is there isn't emergency medical equipment or doctors around.  But in general in my midwives San Diego service I only take women who are healthy. What I meant was that if the pregnancy is high risk then I would tell them to deliver the baby in the hospital.Or if their previous deliveries had some issues then I would also suggest them to just go to the hospital.

A midwife does have the training and possess necesssary medical equipments for emergencies. But since the birth of method is naturally done then less complications would be experienced. That is the general experience of my San Diego licensed midwife service. Usually the complications in a hospital are due to the drugs they use.And these complications would be lessened if the delivery is done the natural way.

So hopefully you see that a midwife and a home birth are safe alternatives to delivering a baby.  So if you are considering a natural birth you should research more.  You will be gladly surprised with all the good information you will find. You will learn that this method can give more benefits than risks.

Midwifery in the 21st century

One way of delivering a baby is by hiring a midwife.Although it is not a popular choice among mothers it is already gaining a following.  The reason why it isn't as widely done is the common misconception that it is unsophisticated. This means that not a lot of technology used on pregnant mothers are used in this method. And with not a lot of technology people associate it with being not advanced or safe.  In this article we are going to show how a midwife has advanced in technology as well.

Well as a midwife in San Diego I know first hand that midwives are starting to use more technology.Although natural way of delivering a baby should be the main goal of midwifery.  You still can use some modern technologies. One example that midwives use is an ultrasound. The reason for this is so that a midwife can also determine the gender of the baby.

Another advancement that is being done in my midwives San Diego service is that we do have emergency equipment at birth.  Things like equipment to resuscitate.  Other various forms of emergency equipment. These things for emergency purposes negate the argument of other people that midwifery is not safe.

Another advance being done with my San Diego waterbirth service is the waterbirth kits being used.  Waterbirths are when you have the baby in water. Well the kits allow for ease of delivery. It will also make it safer for the mother and the baby during the delivery itself.

As you can see midwifery is more advanced now and safer than what people think of it. The thoughts of doing procedures as if in the stone age is not reality.  This all leads to the fact that having a baby at home and with a midwife is safer then you think.  All of these advanced tools make having a baby at home as safe as having a baby in the hospital. So if you plan on undergoing a homebirth do not think that it is not safe.

What does a midwife do for pregnancy

A lot of important choices need to be made if a woman is pregnant. They need to choose a doctor.  More than likely they need to choose a hospital. And some other things. What pregnant women do not realize is that they have a choice aside from the usual way of delivery and this is called natural delivery. That is the method where drugs are not administered during delivery. This method is gaining a lot of following as more and more people become more concerned with their health.A profession that really helps in this area is called midwifery.

What is really the use of midwifery? It is defined as the practice of assisting women to give birth naturally. Of course there are bigger definitions. But this is the simplest definition.  As a San Diego licensed midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally.  There are a lot of benefits to this.  Mainly of course no drug use. And the delivery proceeds faster because there are no drugs administered.Because most drugs administered during the delivery actually slows down the delivery.

Women now not just choose to give birth naturally but also opt to give birth at their own homes. They are choosing their homes over hospitals to give birth to their babies. This is a lot more different than what people are used to doing.  But it offers a lot of benefits.  As a midwives San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand.  Some of those benefits is a more private environment for the mom.Intrusive medical procedures are less needed also because the way of giving birth is the natural way.

There will definitely be objections and sceptics will not stop looking for something to criticize. Some are sceptical about the safety of the method.  But if it is a low risk pregnancy this shouldn't be a big factor. But of course it will not be recommended to a mother whose pregnancy is a high-risk one.  In my San Diego midwife practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk.  That way any concerns can be taken care of by a doctor.

Midwifery and the wrong things people think about it

Midwifery is a health care profession that helps expectant mothers. They are there when the mothers are giving birth and they also provide prenatal care. They also provide postpartum care as well.Midwives are not nurses but if they choose to, they can be. But they have rules and regulations and they also have a governing body. But what are the misconceptions about them?

The misunderstanding stems from the practice of giving birth at home.  In my practice of helping women as a midwife in San Diego, homebirths are where people get confused.People have this wrong belief that having a baby at home is not safe. But for low risk pregnancy they are safe. Also, midwives have some necessary medical equipments at hand in case something serious happens. And since the way they deliver babies is very safe most complications are avoided.

This is the part where the benefits come in.  As some homebirth midwife San Diego perform their services they do it with a natural delivery. This kind of delivery involves no medicine while birthing. No medicine is used to ease the pain of birthing.  But by not using medication this actually helps the delivery happen faster.Because most of the women do not know that medication will slow down the delivery. So by not administering medicine to the mother the delivery would be faster.

Another good thing would be when women deliver using water birth method because this has a lot of benefits for the baby and the mother. From doing water birth in San Diego in my practice the water eases the delivery. The water soothes the muscles of the pregnant mother resulting to an easier delivery of the baby. Plus the baby is birthed in water reducing the shock and stress for the child.

As you can see there are some things that people wrongly think of about midwives and their chosen profession.  But hopefully you can see that for low risk pregnancies it is safe. And midwives also have rules and regulations given by a governing body.  So midwives do have to go to extensive schooling. They know some medical procedures that may be needed in their said profession. So mothers should not worry about their safety while giving birth since midwives have all the necessary medical equipments for emergency purposes. It can be a good choice for pregnant mothers who have low-risk pregnancies.
