Similar to your car or home, your motorcycle also needs insurance as it will guard your bike against damages and fund your medical expenses. Your insurance will guard you against the claims raised by others, if you cause a mishap.

When shopping for any product and insurance is a product, shopping around to get the best deal makes sense. The internet is an incredible tool in the search for affordable policies. Many companies write motorcycle insurance, just make sure in your comparisons that you are comparing like policies. Not all will cover the same items, be diligent in checking to make sure the policies you compare have the same types of coverage. Lower price sometimes means you are not getting a policy that will fit your needs.

You can consult your friends using bikes or the dealer or the agent whose service you used for your home or car insurance, to find an agent whom you consider suitable from your financial and requirement point of view. Never accept a quote without bargain as most of the time you may be successful to lower the rate. However, there are certain factors like your driving record, your experience in driving a bike etc. which are considered by bike insurance companies before giving an insurance quote for your motorcycle insurance. No insurance company will like to get you insured if you have too many accidents in your record and if you have been fined often for speeding. On the other hand, a clean driving record will help you to get a good deal for your motorcycle insurance.

The amount you have to pay to get an insurance will depend on two factors - one, density of population and two, crime rate of the area of your residence. To get a good quote from insurance companies it is always better to install gadgets like alarm or satellite tracking system and arrange for locking of your garage in which your bike is kept as all these reduce the chances of theft. Location of your residence also is an important factor for insurance quote as risk of damage due to accident and other general factors increases if you drive long and drive throughout the year.

If you decide to drive a motorcycle without having a license, consider the fact that you won't be able to get an insurance policy. However, if you have a license, your insurance quote might be different depending on the type of motorcycle you drive. If you have a street bike or unique and expensive one or planning to use your motorcycle for business, your insurance quote will be higher.

Furthermore, it is preferable to completely understand one’s insurance policy to determine if one is covered for first or third party insurance. First party insurance makes a direct payment to cover the loss of damage to one’s property or injury to one’s physical self. Third party coverage makes a payment on one’s behalf if an accident has resulted in damage or injury to the other party. There are financial limits that apply to each type of insurance. Also, deductibles are applicable to each policy holder. A deductible is the dollar amount for which an individual is responsible before the insurance policy pays the policy amount in the event of an accident.

sInfluencing the above stated variables can be done to varying degrees. You can do a number of things that could help you get a lower quote on insurance. One example would be to keep your driving record clear by driving in a mature manner.
